There’s nothing like digging into someone’s actual work and being able to witness the excitement when they figure out what’s been holding them up in their work.
The Live Edits Workshop is very limited–only six students and it’s full. I also do live edits in the Self-Editing Workshop, but that’s only six months out of the year.
So–I’m beyond pleased to introduce Live Edits Mini.
If you join Live Edits Mini, you’ll be invited to join us every Thursday from 5 to 7 pm EST. You’ll share a Google Doc with one page of your story. After you read that page out loud, I’ll screen share and edit it for you.
As I edit, I’ll talk through my edits and why I’m making them. You’ll understand exactly why I’m making every single change.
Believe it or not, it can be more beneficial to see someone else be edited than to get edited yourself. (Although, being edited is fun!) Because you’re not so attached to everyone else’s stories, sometimes you can see the problem easier. And because there are only so many issues that come up in writing, chances are high that some of the edits I make for other people will apply to you, too.
Every Thursday (starting April 14th at 5pm EST), we’ll start with anyone who was there the week before, but didn’t get a chance to read. And then everyone else who didn’t read the week before. Finally, we’ll take as many of the people who did read the week before as possible.
You’ll be guaranteed an edit at least every other week. Depending on how many people show up and how quickly we get through the edits, you may get to read more often.
The goal of Live Edits Mini is to teach you how to edit for yourself. While you’ll get my thoughts and a professional edit on your pages, you’ll also learn how to extrapolate those edits through your whole manuscript.
This is a cost-effective way to get hands-on editing and one-on-one education.
A bonus: you’ll connect with a great group of writers. You’ll have your own Slack channel for working together outside of your workshop. And you’ll learn about each other’s stories. It’s a built-in band of cheerleaders, all encouraging each other. And offering amazing accountability.
